Swinging Sixties | Moodboard

Anna Karina
With the end of the Silent Film era came a new generation of cinematic pieces, bursting at the seams with 'talkies'. While there were many genius and classic films born and nurtured in this era, it was only in the Swinging Sixties that film truly evolved, and progressed closer to the film standards we now have today. Once again, another film era came to pass, and the New Hollywood era came about.
The unspeakable elements of sex and violence were introduced, and dramatically so. While many were appalled, many were transfixed. During this time, the chaotic, cultural revolution that occurred in the film industry was congruent with the monumental changes in music, fashion, and television, as well as the overall frenzied transformations in society.
A predominant film-movement that took place in Europe was Art Cinema, encapsulating la Nouvelle Vague (The French New Wave)—a personal favorite of mine. Globally, the ascension of these film movements fostered a new age of unorthodoxy.
